Crown Preparation

Today your tooth was prepared to receive an attractive porcelain and metal crown, which will be placed in a few weeks. The tooth will be much stronger than before and able to resist fractures better. Keep in mind that good oral hygiene habits at home will be a major factor in the improved comfort during the time you are wearing your temporary.

Anesthesia:

You will continue to be under the affects of anesthetic for several hours following treatment. The lower arch will most likely stay numb longer than the upper arch. Please use caution when eating or drinking anything while numb. We recommend a soft, moderate temperature diet of eggs, yogurt, ice cream, etc. Avoid hot or hard, chewy foods so that you do not burn or bite yourself during these first few hours.

New Restorations

Today we rebuilt you tooth with an attractive and strong bonded restoration. This replaced an area of decay or a broken or leaking filling. Your restoration is 'set' and should perform well for you once the anesthetic wears off.

Night Guard

Today you received an appliance that should help protect the integrity of several components of your masticatory system including the temporal mandibular joint (TMJ), the tissue and bone around your teeth and the enamel of your teeth and roots.


Extractions

Most people do very well after a tooth extraction; rarely do we expect any complications. Following these suggestions will make your healing process more comfortable.

If this was a permanent tooth:

Please call the office if you run a fever, develop swelling or have a bad taste from the extraction site.


Scaling and Rootplaning

Today we performed a treatment called scaling and rootplaning. This is a therapeutic procedure that can reduce inflammation, redness and pocket depths in the treated areas. It is important to remember that the deciding success factor in this procedure is establishing excellent oral hygiene habits at home.
